The sled MUST
| be at least 5 feet long, | |
| be at least 3 feet high, | |
| be at least 18 inches wide, | |
| have at least 15 lashed connections, and | |
| have all rope ends whipped. |
NO SKIS, METAL, OR PLASTIC MAY BE USED AS RUNNERS OR AS PART OF THE BASE OF THE SLED! (The base and runners MUST be wood.)
A suggested model is shown below. It uses 1/2" or larger dowels that are 8" long for glued vertical rods. The holes are drilled through one 2x4 but not through both. You could use saplings for all other poles.
Note: The dowels will be slippery and will not hold splices well unless you scuff them up quite a bit OR you could use pine tree sap.
